The year 2011 marks the 25th anniversary of our designation for the NC Main Street program. In 1988, the Historic Downtown district was entered into the National Register of Historic Places. Today, the group is one of 57 such organizations in North Carolina to hold membership in the Main Street Program, which is part of the National Trust for Historic Preservation that’s dedicated to the revitalization of the nation’s central business districts. Preparations for the 25th anniversary celebration are in the concept stages.
